Hello, my name is Mr Matthews and I teach Spruce Class. We are a Year 4 class. Working alongside me in Spruce Class is Miss Jackson.

Year 4 is an exciting year full of learning, creativity and new experiences. We work hard, support one another and always try our best. Our classroom is a welcoming environment where everyone is encouraged to be curious, ask questions and develop confidence in their learning.

This year we have lots of fantastic topics to explore across the curriculum. In History, we will travel back in time to learn about the Ancient Egyptians and the Ancient Greeks, discovering how these remarkable civilisations have influenced the world we live in today. In Science, we will be learning about the classification of animals as well as many other exciting topics through practical investigations and hands-on learning. We also have engaging units planned in Geography, Art, Design and Technology, Computing and Music throughout the year.

In English, we will enjoy a range of exciting texts that will inspire our reading and writing. We will develop our creativity, vocabulary and confidence as writers while continuing to build strong reading skills.

We are also looking forward to some exciting trips and visitors later in the year, which will help bring our learning to life and create lasting memories. Further details will be shared as plans are confirmed.

To help your child make the most of their learning in Year 4, please encourage them to:

• Read regularly at home.
• Practise their times tables, especially for the Year 4 Multiplication Check.
• Complete any homework activities that are sent home.

PE days may change throughout the year, so please ensure that PE kit is in school and that all clothing and belongings are clearly labelled.
