Hello and welcome! My name is Miss Dobie, and I’m the Year 5 class teacher for Rowan class. Working alongside me in Rowan class is Mrs Whippy.
Year 5 is packed with exciting learning opportunities. In History, we’ll explore fascinating periods such as the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons. In Design and Technology, we’ll be creating pop-up books and designing our own bridges. In Science, we’ll be investigating everything from earth and space to forces and materials.
We’ll also be diving into some brilliant books in English, including The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis and Beowulf retold by Michael Morpurgo.
There are plenty of enriching experiences to look forward to too. We’ll be visiting The Jewish Museum in Manchester as part of our RE work, and we’ll also be welcoming Wonderdome, a walk-in planetarium, to school. In the Spring term, we’ll be performing at St Catherine’s Church during the Easter service. We also have a very special school sleepover to look forward to!
To find out more about what we’re learning in Year 5, please take a look at our curriculum pages. We’ll also be sharing regular updates, photos, and important information via our Class Dojo page.
Reading regularly at home is really important, and we expect pupils to keep practising their times tables to build fluency. These will form part of your weekly homework, alongside a half-termly project task.
Finally, please note that PE days may change during the year, so we ask that PE kits are kept in school and clearly labelled, along with all uniform.
We’re really looking forward to a brilliant year of learning and discovery in Year 5!
