Hello, my name is Mrs Cunningham and I teach Hawthorn Class. We are a year six class. Working alongside me in Hawthorn Class is Miss Sturgeon.  Mrs Calderbank also works in our class for part of each day. 

Our classroom has flexible seating. This means that we can choose to sit in the way that we feel most ready to learn on any given day. We have high seating, collaborative seating, bean bags and sofas to use depending on how we feel we will work best. The classroom is designed to help us feel calm and regulated; we even have a fish tank.  

In year six we have lots of great topics as part of our curriculum: World World II and the Vikings in History, Rainforests in Geography, making burgers and teddies in Design and Technology, and exploring light and electricity in Science. In English we have some brilliant texts to support our learning, including The Nowhere Emporium, The Explorer and Macbeth (gruesome but definitely a favourite). 

We have some exciting experiences planned this year including a trip to Preston to learn about undercover intelligence in World War II and a trip to RHS Bridgewater to support our learning in Science and art. We will also have regular visitors coming into school to support our learning. At the end of the year, there will be lots of additional experiences including our leavers meal and the chance to attend the residential.

In May, year six will, of course, be completing their end of Key Stage Two tests. While we do not want the children to be unduly worried about this, there are lots of things that you can do at home throughout the year to support your learning and ensure you do your best: 

• Read regularly (ideally every day) 

• Continue to practice times tables 

• Engage with online learning – this may involve accessing Dreambox Maths and Literacy Gold 

• Complete any practice papers and revision tasks that are sent home and return them to school promptly 

PE days will change throughout the year, so please make sure that your PE kit (indoor an outdoor) is in school and that all kit and uniform is clearly labelled.
