Luna - The Therapy Dog

We are pleased to announce that our school will be introducing a therapy dog as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing and development.

Research shows that interaction with a well-trained therapy dog can help children build confidence, reduce anxiety, and support social and emotional learning. Our school therapy dog is called Luna. She is a Cockerpoo, a breed often chosen for its friendly nature and low-shedding coat, which is widely regarded as more suitable for those with mild sensitivities.

Luna will be owned by Mrs Cooper and will be fully trained, carefully assessed for suitability in a school environment, and always supervised by trained adults. All interactions with children will be carefully planned, structured and closely monitored to ensure the safety, wellbeing and comfort of everyone involved.

We understand that not all families may wish for their child to interact with a dog in school. If you do not want your child to take part in any activities involving the therapy dog, a consent form is being sent out to all parents and carers to opt out and also to provide any information regarding allergies and sensitivities to dogs. Alternative arrangements will always be made to ensure your child is fully supported and included in all other aspects of school life.

A copy of the consent form can be found below.
