Hello, my name is Miss Woodford and I teach Ash class. We are a year 1 class. I am excited to be starting my journey at Brunshaw with Ash class and already feel welcomed in by the lovely children. Working alongside me are Mrs Williams and Miss Iqbal. Mrs Eastwood will also work with both of the Year 1 classes.

In year one we have lots of exciting topics, including learning about the Great Fire of London and Toys from the Past in History. In Design Technology, we will be getting creative by making house structures and fruit ice lollies and we will learn about everyday materials and plants in Science. Our English learning is called Curious Quests, where we will explore lots of interesting texts such as George’s Marvellous Medicine, The Giant Jam Sandwich and The Wolly Bear Caterpillar.

During year one, we will go on some fantastic trips to support our learning. We will visit Towneley park to meet a park ranger as part of our English learning and the garden centre to study different kinds of plants for Science. We also have a Den Building day and will make and flip pancakes as one of our Brunshaw Passport Experiences.

Reading books can be handed in any day and will be changed when the book is completed with a book at your child's reading level. Please aim to read at home regularly to help develop their fluency and vocabulary, as well as, helping them to learn all their phonics sounds and tricky words. This is really important and will be expected as part of the homework, alongside a half termly homework task to complete.

PE days will change throughout the year, so please make sure that your PE kit is in school and that all kit and uniform is clearly labelled.
