  • Lancashire Equality Mark

This week we welcomed Sam Hoban into Brunshaw from the Equality and Diversity Team at Lancashire County Council to show her all the hard work we have been doing here regarding Equality and Diversity. We have particularly been focusing on Race and Religion and Belief and, after speaking to the children, governors, staff and parents, we are delighted to announce that we have been accredited with the Race Equality and Religion and Belief Equality and Inclusion badges.

She was really impressed with our hard work and had this to say about us:

    Dear Mrs McGuigan,

Lancashire Equality Mark – Race Equality and Inclusion and Religion and Belief Equality and Inclusion Badges
Thank you for inviting me to see the fantastic work that is going on in your school. Through the accreditation visit, your detailed submission, and the supporting evidence provided, it was evident that Race Equality and Religion and Belief Equality are key priorities for the school. We are therefore delighted to award your school the Race Equality and Religion and Belief Equality and Inclusion badges. Congratulations!

I could clearly see that equality is embedded across the whole school, school community and curriculum, creating an inclusive culture where pupils and families feel valued, represented and respected. Through initiatives such as British Values, the Mirrors and Doors programme and the Passport of Experiences, pupils have developed a greater understanding of diversity, culture, religion and belief, while strengthening their sense of belonging.

It was a pleasure to meet and spend time with your Governor and grandparent. To hear about the positive impact this work has had on family engagement and community cohesion, and how supportive and involved both Governors and parents are. It was also a delight to meet with your pupils. Their enthusiasm when leading the tour of the school was inspiring. They spoke confidently about their experiences, leadership opportunities and the inclusive environment they helped to create.

We are thrilled to receive the awards and look forward to our future work in Equality and Inclusion.
